Palm Oil Free Chocolates

We ran 1,794 chocolates through our palm oil free rules: 24 pass, 12 need a label check, and 464 don't make it.

Cocoa butter is the traditional fat, but fillings, coatings and cheaper bars often use palm oil to stay solid without tempering. Pure dark and milk bars usually pass; filled pralines, wafer bars and spreads are where palm oil appears. "Vegetable fat" in a chocolate list nearly always means palm or shea, and the label rarely says which.

Check the label first
